Army Men Play The Perfect Party-Poopers
Luciano Spalletti’s side were destroyed in front of their own supporters…
Zenit St. Petersburg will have to wait a little longer to celebrate the Russian Premier League title triumph after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to CSKA Moscow at the Petrovski Stadium on Wednesday evening.
It was the first home defeat in the league this season for Luciano Spalletti’s side and it destroyed their hopes of winning the championship with three more rounds of matches remaining.
Zenit fans expected a very determined team to turn up for the clash but they were left disappointed after just 14 minutes when CSKA’s Vagner Love broke the deadlock. 20 minutes later Mark Gonzalez made it 2-0 to the visitors and just seven minutes into the second session Seydou Doumbia strolled the ball past Yuri Zhevnov to add the cherry on the cake.
However, Zenit did pull one back deep into injury time when Alessandro Rosina shot the ball home from close range but it was too little, too late.
The outcome still keeps Zenit in pole position in the league with 63 points from 27 matches but are now six points ahead of CSKA, who have replace defending Russian champions Rubin Kazan in second place.
