CSKA remain unbeaten

Reigning champions CSKA Moscow battled back from a goal down to win 2-1 at struggling Tom Tomsk on Saturday and go clear at the top of the Russian Premier League.

Reigning champions CSKA Moscow battled back from a goal down to win 2-1 at struggling Tom Tomsk on Saturday and go clear at the top of the Russian Premier League.

The Red Army side have won four and drawn two of their opening six games and sit one point clear of second-placed Rostov, who face Lokomotiv Moscow on Monday.

Spartak Moscow, who take on Amkar Perm also on Monday, share third place with Zenit St. Petersburg, who drew 1-1 with Dynamo Moscow.

CSKA trailed 1-0 when Tomsk striker Igor Portnyagin converted the rebound from close range just before the half-hour mark after the Red Army side's goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev had stopped Kirill Panchenko's initial effort.

The capital club drew level in the 52nd minute when Côte d'Ivoire forward Seydou Doumbia headed home a cross from the left from Georgy Shchennikov, and Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa then got the winner seven minutes later.

He finished into an empty net after Tomsk goalkeeper Petr Vasek had parried Zoran Tosic's shot from just inside the area.

"In the first half, we lacked passion, but after the interval we used the wide areas a lot more and it paid off," CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky said.
