CSKA Moscow defeated Rubin Kazan 1-0 at the Tsentralnyi Stadium in Kazan in the Russian Premier League on Friday afternoon to close the gap on leaders Zenit St Petersburg to just a point.
The only goal of the game came in the 39th minute when Mark Gonzalez slotted the ball from close range. Rubin had a few half-chances in the second half but couldn't capitalise on them.
The win for the Koni means that they now have 23 points from 11 matches in the league and are just a point behind leaders Zenit, who have a game in hand. On the other hand, Rubin remain third with 20 points from 11 games.
