Zenit St Petersburg handed technical defeat for failing to field home-grown talent against CSKA Moscow
Russian Football Union award technical loss to Zenit for breaking regulations by not fielding any Russian youngsters
Zenit St Petersburg's failure to meet selection regulations concerning home-grown players has landed them a loss for their game against CSKA Moscow.
Luciano Spalletti's men drew 1-1 at the Petrovsky Stadium on Saturday, but that has been cancelled out by the Russian Football Union who confirmed the award of a defeat as a sanction for not picking youngsters for the matchday squad.
Sports.ru reports the Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union decided to award Zenit a technical defeat for the week four Russian Premier League game against CSKA. The St Petersburg club will also pay a fine of 200,000 Rubles (€4,900).
The decision came after it emerged Spalletti had not included any home-grown players in the match squad despite a warning from the game inspector.
Current Russian regulations require the clubs to have at least one player per matchday squad, who has to be born no earlier than 1990 and hold full Russian citizenship.
The new result means Zenit, currently second on eight points, would drop to fourth in the standings ahead of their game against Amkar on Sunday.
