Zico appointed PFC CSKA Head coach
Brazilian coach Zico was appointed PFC CSKA Head coach. He has signed a 3-year deal with the club.
In the Russian club, he gave his first interview as the team´s manager for CSKA TV. Check out the transcript below:
CSKA TV: What was the major reason to accept PFC CSKA proposal?
Zico: It´s a very important squad in European football, a club full of victories and that has a great history in Russia. I´m a winner and I intend to keep myself like that. So I want to follow Valery Gazzaev´s work. PFC CSKA is a club used to win titles and I want to achieve this goal.
Who is coming to help you in this work?
My brother Edu works side by side with me for seven years as an assistant coach and his career as a manager includes even some time as the Brazilian national team coach. I don´t have to explain more. Do I? And I´m also bringing Paulo Paixão as the fitness preparer.
Are you following PFC CSKA campaign?
I know CSKA players very well. I watched some matches and I played against the team when I was managing Fenerbahçe. It´s a creative team and the players are together for a while. PFC CSKA had a great manager and we need to continue the good work.
Which changes are you planning to do when you start this work?
It depends. We need to do a hard work everyday looking for improve ourselves. My idea is to continue the winning work.
You don´t have a lot of time before the match against Aston Villa for UEFA Cup. Can you analyze this?
Russian teams have a disadvantage in European competitions because their calendar is different. When the other championships are finishing, the Russian is in the middle of the season. The players are coming back from vacation right now. We need to forget this problems and overcome the obstacles with technical quality, will and overrun.
How the negotiation to close the deal was conducted?
The Russians contacted me in a very careful way. A new contract deal is always delay. I didn´t confirmed the deal because I had not signed yet. But, now, the contract is signed and I can fully concentrate on my work at PFC CSKA. If I was unemployed, the deal would be a lot easier, but I was connected to Bunyodkor. I want to thank the club, the president, that tried hard to keep me there. I was very well treated when I lived in Uzbekistan.

I would like to say that I will do utmost to make my work really efficient for the club. I´m going to think about it 24 hours a day and I hope the fans will be happy with our progress.
