Viktor Hancharenka: structurally we looked fine
20.08.2020
PFC CSKA head coach’s press conference after the match in Saint Petersburg.
— We looked good enough for 60-70 minutes. Then we unreasonably got rid of the ball at the beginning of the attack. Zenit is an experienced team, they picked up a lot of balls and kept us under pressure. If we had been a little bit bolder at the beginning of the attack, our game would have looked better. But structurally we looked fine. We make changes, we will be getting closer to not only beating Zenit, but also being above them in the table. We do everything for that.
— How do you evaluate Gaich’s performance? Will you ask the management to buy another striker to strengthen the attacking line?
— As for quantity we are well-equipped. We expect that Gaich will adapt quickly and will benefit us. The qualities that he has are clearly visible. But he lacks mobility, as he had a big pause in training. I think we will improve our game. As for strengthening, the transfer window is open. We are close to purchases. It is possible that there will be transfers in the coming weeks. Not just in the attack line, it can be midfielders and defenders.
— What about Nababkin, is the nature of his injury clear?
— We will assess his condition on Thursday. It may be a bad injury, but we will only find out after a medical examination.
— When you came to PFC CSKA, there was a core of experienced players, but then you had to make a new team. Now there are also experienced players, as well as young ones. When was it more difficult?
— It was easier to achieve results with that experienced team. They clearly understood how to play against different opponents. Nevertheless, we are now very optimistic. We have a lot of good players and there may be more to come. Our team is in a state of growth. We will do our utmost to strengthen the team on the transfer market, but at the same time, we need to use the available resource correctly. We can see how players are growing, how eager they are to play and this inspires optimism.
